Beverley And District Talking Newspaper

The Talking Newspaper now has a Facebook page. They are hoping this will increase the numbers who subscribe to this free local service.

They have been assisted by Ruby Acaster, a 16 year-old Media student from East Riding College. She has designed the site with a mix of photos, video clips and descriptions of what the work involves and has agreed to continue to update the site.

Most importantly the organisers hope that this will help spread the word and that more people will be helped by the service offered. It is completely free and currently is issued every fortnight, bringing local news clips, a quiz and magazine-style articles to those who cannot easily read a newspaper.

This was initially focussed on those with sight loss but anyone who has difficulty holding a newspaper can apply for the CD, such as those with Parkinson’s or someone who has had a stroke.

Martin Cox, the Chair of the Talking News in Beverley said, “If you have a relative, friend or neighbour who might benefit please contact us directly or look through the Facebook site to see what we offer. We already send out over 40 disks at a time but there is always room for more listeners!”
