East Yorkshire Judo Academy Win in Northern Ireland Home Nation event
Wed 24th April 2019East Yorkshire Judo Academy recently attended the Northern Ireland Open with great success. The competition is one of judo’s Home Nation events and attracts the best players from Great Britain. The Academy sent 6 players to take part with 4 of them achieving places in the medals for their respective weight categories.
3 of the players who are also brothers had mixed fortunes with Logan Campbell, the eldest at 16, winning a Bronze medal in a very tough category. The wins through the day and the points scored for the medal position will further increase on his current ranking in Great Britain putting him into 4th place. Logan’s younger brother Mason (14) had an unlucky day, falling foul to a technical ruling which saw him unable to continue. The youngest of the Campbell clan, Hayes (10) started off well and was fighting hard when he picked up a small injury and it was decided that it was better for him to not take part in his final fight. Even without this, his efforts were enough to secure a silver medal!
Tommy Jackson (14) had a great day in yet another tough category, in which he won a Bronze Medal winning 4 of his 5 fights. The 4 he won were by Ippon (stopped early) and his 5th went to full time. Like Logan, Tommy has also increased his Great Britain standing, this time to 5th place.
First up for the girls was Ellesha Tennison (14). She fought hard showing fantastic determination against some strong opponents, only losing to the eventual medallists. Her training and hard work is paying off and showing in her techniques on the mat. Maddy Kissenisky (12) was the last of East Yorkshire Judo Academy’s players to step up and she didn’t disappoint! She won another Bronze medal for the club and was another one of their players to really step up to the occasion.
The coaches are really proud of all of their players efforts at this, such a high level competition and thank them for representing the club so well both on and off the mat.
