A Sell out Success

Established in 1988, Beverley & East Riding Early Music Festival has become an important date on the county’s arts calendar.

This year ticket sales were at an all-time high, with the festival attracting audiences not just from the region but from all over the UK and Europe. The increase in numbers provided an important boost to the local economy, as well as enjoying the music, visitors were able to make the most of the excellent shopping, hotels, restaurants, cafes Beverley has to offer.

The festival takes place annually over the Whit Bank Holiday weekend in venues all over the town.

Venues hosting the concerts, talks and workshops included Beverley Minster, St Mary’s Church, Toll Gavel, St Nicholas Church, the Hexagon Arts Centre and East Riding Theatre.

New for 2024, and one of the most popular events, was Song Path Musical Walking Trail. The sun shone and the audience enjoyed an immersive outdoor experience, with a gentle walk across the Westwood, where even the local cows came out to join in the fun.

The festival opened with a reception in the elegant Guildhall, which was attended by Laura Garcia Alfaya, Consulate General of Spain, as well as representatives from East Riding of Yorkshire Council, musicians, East Riding Arts and the local community.

This year the festival received funding from the Embassy of Spain for the opening concert performed by Spanish Ensemble El Gran Teatro del Mundo.

Delma Tomlin, MBE, DUniv, director said: “We always look forward to returning to Beverley to enjoy some wonderful music, catching up with old friends and making new ones. This year’s festival was buzzing with creativity, music and laughter and we’re already making plans for next year!”
