Bridlington To Host International Beach Volleyball Tournament

Bridlington is to host world-class volleyball players this summer as part of the World Beach Pro Tour (BPT), hosted by England for the first time.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council will partner with Volleyball England and local club Skyball Beach Volleyball Club to deliver the competition from Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 June.

The event occurs between the Northern European Volleyball Zonal Association (NEVZA) Senior Championships and NEVZA Youth Beach Championships, which will also be held in Bridlington.

There will be a total of two full weeks of international beach volleyball action in the town. All events will be free to watch, with a selection to be livestreamed online.

Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism said: “We are delighted to welcome this brand-new event to Bridlington and build upon our long-standing partnership with Volleyball England.”

“We look forward to welcoming some of world’s best volleyball players to East Yorkshire, which will provide a crucial tourism boost for local businesses.”

“The Beach Pro Tour is the highest level of beach volleyball competition on the world stage. We hope this will inspire future generations of players, both across Yorkshire and the whole country.”

England’s team will also include Yorkshire-born Maks Makowski and Josh Cosgrove, who grew up playing on Belvedere beach in Bridlington.

Maks said: “It means so much to me. Bridlington Beach has been like a second home to us for years. We have spent countless days there training and simply enjoying the game.

“We have the incredible opportunity to compete on the Beach Pro Tour at the first-ever event in England, at a place that holds so many memories for me and my family. It’s incredibly exciting and something I'm very proud of.”

Josh said: “There’s something different about competing in front of a home crowd, in a place that means so much to you personally.”

“It’s a real honour to represent Yorkshire and England on home sand.”
