Beverley Chamber have a Ball

With only a few minutes left to spare the final preparations were complete for The Beverley and District Chamber of Trade Annual Ball last Friday November 2nd, 7.30pm at the Memorial Hall, Lairgate, Beverley. 

Guests having walked up the Green Carpet to the sound of guns were greeted in the Reception by Julian Minshall Chairman of the Beverley and District Chamber of Trade, Michael Menzies-Baird Chairman of SSAFA, then welcomed by Leanne Marshall of Hunters Estate Agency who lead people into the War Time Themed Hall. Entertained by Laurel and Hardy magicians and a caricaturist to record the night for people.

After readings by the local poetry group and a snippet from "Black Adder goes Forth", a good old knees up to "Pack up your troubles" ensured the party got underway.

Hosting the charity auction in aid of SSAFA were Leanne Marshall and Paul Downey encouraging people to dig deep to purchase some great one off  Auction Items - which would make great Christmas gifts. 

There was something for everyone to get excited about the bidding war was on!

Lots include a Tiger Moth flight experience, framed Dam Busters posters, a framed Tower of London Poppy, a pleasure flight,
a trip to Auschwitz, Chloe Nugent artwork, a limited edition bottle of gin, a night a the Beverley Arms, a signed New Zealand 7’s rugby shirt and more.

The bespoke memorial bench from Sherburn Forge which will be sited at Flemingate was the main auction item, Beverley Building Society were successful with their BID. De Lacy team were responsible for the design of the bench,  Sherburn Forge's Lee Cade and his team responsible for the interpretation and build with the winning bidder’s own dedication to be incorporated.

Raffle prizes include a P&O Mini Cruise for two, a special creation from White Rabbit Chocolatiers vouchers to spend at The Tiger Inn and much more.

The dress code was ‘Pimp Your Poppy’. allowed guests to be creative in their appearance and no one disappointed, the prizes for the best-dressed man and woman went to Peter Rayner and his wife Janet. Peter brought with him a full display of RAF memorabilia and also carved a unique poppy for the raffle.

Everyone had a Ball and in excess of £6500 was raised for SSAFA.
