David Remfry ‘In Conversation’ event arrives at Beverley Art Gallery in June

David Remfry In Conversation Event Arrives At Beverley Art Gallery In June

In the final week of David Remfry’s major retrospective at Beverley Art Gallery, visitors will have the opportunity to attend an exclusive ‘In Conversation’ event featuring the artist in discussion with Sarah Victoria Turner, Director of Yale University’s Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.

Remfry’s exhibition at Beverley Art Gallery, his first comprehensive retrospective, includes newly researched material into his early career by exhibition Curator Dr Gerardine Mulcahy-Parker.

The exhibition showcases over 60 works by the acclaimed artist, spanning from the 1960s to the present day. It also features previously unseen pieces, which have been framed and publicly displayed for the first time.

The exhibition is free to enter and is open until Saturday, 21st June.

The ‘In Conversation’ event will take place on Thursday, 19 June, from 6pm to 7pm, at Beverley Art Gallery within the Champney Treasure House.

The event will be held within the exhibition space itself, allowing Remfry to reference specific works and reflect on his career and influences, from his early days as a young art student in Hull to his latest creations as an internationally renowned artist.

This event also marks a ‘homecoming’ for Sarah Victoria Turner, a distinguished art historian, curator, and writer, born in the East Riding. Turner is an alumnus of the Universities of Cambridge, Leeds and the Courtauld Institute of Art, and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Turner’s work has been widely published, and she has co-curated several major exhibitions. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear Turner interview Remfry, with a chance to pose questions during the concluding Q&A session.

Tickets for the 'in conversation' event are £8 per person and must be purchased in advance.

Hannah Willetts, Curator at Beverley Art Gallery, said:  "This is a truly unique and rare opportunity to hear this extraordinary artist speak about his work and career first-hand, and In Conversation with a renowned expert.

“We are delighted to welcome David and Sarah to Beverley for this special event, their time and expertise are greatly appreciated by both the Gallery and our visitors."

Councillor Nick Coultish, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, commented: "We very much look forward to hosting this ‘In Conversation’ event with David Remfry and Sarah Victoria Turner at Beverley Art Gallery.

“Remfry's retrospective has received widespread acclaim, attracting visitors from near and far to enjoy the impressive collection of works. This event provides a fitting and delightful finale to the exhibition."
