Libraries are set to bring top musical talent to the East Riding, as part of a partnership between East Riding Libraries and Blaize Community Arts, funded by the Arts Council England.
Events will be performed in libraries in Beverley, Driffield, Hessle, Hornsea, Pocklington and Willerby. Places are limited, and interested residents are encouraged to pre-buy tickets while they are available.
A musical classics event, with a live pianist, will feature songs from shows including Les Misérables, The Wizard of Oz and Evita. Performers Thomas Cove and Laura England will showcase the songs of musical theatre’s best-known composers such as Rogers and Hammerstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber, and share stories of life on the West End. They will visit Driffield Library on Saturday 18 October, Pocklington Pocela Centre on Monday 20 October, and Hessle Library on Tuesday 21 October.
Beverley Library will host an exploration of Bob Marley’s work and influence in reggae, with artist Duane Forrest. He will also perform a new reggae jazz and folk museum fusion album, following a sold-out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and international tour. The event will be held on Tuesday 14 October.
The Allison Lupton Trio, from Canada, will deliver a vibrant blend of story-rich songs, lively fiddle tunes and dazzling step dance, at performances in Willerby Library and Hornsea Hub. Their original songs are inspired by the historic connections between Canada and the UK and seamlessly join traditional folk repertoire. They will visit Willerby on Wednesday 19 November, and Hornsea on Saturday 29 November.
Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: “We’re delighted to bring exciting musical performances to libraries across the East Riding. We highly encourage interested residents to purchase tickets as soon as possible and attend the fantastic events on offer.”
Gail Ferrin, Scheme Manager for Blaize Rural Touring , said “At Blaize we are pleased to offer high quality entertainment, with this programme encompassing musical theatre classics, artists and companies with Canadian connections, and a fabulous blend of live music in the East Riding area.”
