Day Services have the X-Factor
Tue 17th February 2015Day services from across the East Riding joined forces to showcase their musical talent at an X-Factor style event which pulled in a crowd of over 200 people.
Contestants took to the stage at Millers Day Centre, in Beverley for the contest which saw Jonathan Hoe, from Withernsea Day Services crowned winner thanks to an impassioned performance of ‘I Will Always Love You’ in honour of his late mother.
The day-long contest featured performances by service users from Pastures Day Services, in Goole; Priory View Day Services, in Bridlington; Victoria Avenue Day Centre, in Withernsea; Wold Haven Day Centre, in Pocklington; Hessle Day Services and Brough Day Services; Waterview Lodge, Driffield and Millers Day Centre, Beverley.
The panel of judges were Lauraine Walker, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s head of business management, East Riding of Yorkshire Council service manager John Duncan, Millers Day Centre volunteer Mary Sugden, and Millers Day Centre caretaker Stan Barlow.
Lauraine Walker, the council’s head of business management said: “Everyone had a wonderful day which featured a lot of laughter, fun and the odd tear as well.
“This was the ninth year that we have run this event and each year the standard of the acts just gets better and better.
“It was a real privilege to be invited to judge such an uplifting event. The winning performance by Jonathan was truly amazing, he blew us all away as it was done with such passion and character, he was a worthy winner.
“I would like to congratulate everyone who took part in the X-Factor day and helped to make it a truly fun and enjoyable day for all.”
Councillor Richard Harrap, East Riding of Yorkshire Council portfolio holder for adult and carer services said: “Contests like the X-Factor Day are the perfect opportunity for everyone involved in East Riding Day Services to get together and showcase their talents.
“I know that everyone involved will have worked really hard on perfecting their performances for the event and I would like to congratulate everyone who took part.”
