Final phase of Beverley road improvement scheme to begin next week
Fri 27th July 2018The final phase of the £995,000 road improvement scheme for Beverley’s town centre is due to begin on Monday 30 July.
A number of roads and roundabouts have already been resurfaced in Beverley as part of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council project - and next week work will start on resurfacing a section of parking bays on Norwood.
The parking bays - outside Beverley High School - run from the top of Norwood to the junction with Recreation Park Lane.
The work will be carried out over two weeks by the council’s contractors, Tarmac Trading Ltd.
The road along Norwood will remain open at all times during the work.
The scheme will be completed in two sections, with half the spaces due to be resurfaced between Monday 30 July and Wednesday 1 August, and the second half due to be resurfaced between Thursday 2 August and Friday 10 August.
Motorists will not be able to use the parking bays while work is being carried out between 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
However they will be reopened for use on Saturdays and Sundays.
Most of the bays are used for pay-and-display parking, alongside some limited waiting and controlled parking zone spaces for residents.
The work is due to be completed by Friday 10 August.
Dave Waudby, head of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “We would like to thank residents, motorists and businesses in advance for their patience while this work is carried out.
“The work is necessary as the parking bays have become worn and they are in need of resurfacing.”
As part of the Beverley road improvement scheme, resurfacing work has already been completed in Beckside, North Bar Within, Lairgate, Morton Lane, mini roundabouts in New Walkergate and Lord Roberts Road, and also a stretch of the A164 north of Leconfield.
