Hull Truck Theatre Announce Cast for Abigail's Party
Wed 8th August 2018The same awkward jokes, the same pineapple sticks. Yet something is different. On this occasion, Abigail’s Party is more than a light-hearted, satirical piece on the 1970s nouveau riche. Rather than simply reviving the play, Director Amanda Huxtable has decided to revisit it.
Abigail’s Party reflects the principles of our Change Makers programme, as it challenges the assumption that the play must feature an all-white cast. Hull Truck Theatre’s Abigail’s Party is closely linked to the organisation’s new casting policy: the casting process was carried out with a view to ensuring that the organisation casts the best actors for the roles available across a myriad of cultural groups and ethnicities, therefore 50% of our auditionees were BAME actors and 2 of the 5 cast members are Black professional actors.
Katharine Bennett-Fox, known for productions that include ITV2’s supernatural drama Switch, Cinderella at The Lyric Theatre Hammersmith, and The Merry Wives of Windsor at The Oxford Shakespeare Company will play the superficial, flamboyant Beverly Moss. Duncan MacInnes (Up ‘n’ Under at Gordon Craig Theatre, Stoned at The National Theatre, The Wind In The Willows at Haymarket Theatre) will star as Beverly’s husband, Laurence Moss. Ani Nelson (The Revenger’s Tragedy at The Rose Bankside, Underwater Love at Futures Theatre, A Cratchit Christmas at Theatre503) will take on the role of Angela Cooper, while Daniel Ward (Fast Cuts & Snap Shots at Fuel Theatre, The Amen Corner at The National Theatre, 24 Hour Plays at Old Vic New Voices) will be Tony Cooper. Rebecca Charles (An Ideal Husband at Vaudeville Theatre, The Graduate at West Yorkshire Playhouse, film and television credits include Bridget Jones’s Diary, EastEnders, Midsomer Murders) will join the cast as Susan Lawson.
This production has been developed with our talented creative team: Emma Williams (Designer), Arnim Friess (Lighting and Digital Designer), and Adam McCready (Sound Designer).
Amanda Huxtable, Director of Abigail’s Party, says:
"I’m so glad to be announcing the cast together with Hull Truck Theatre. When searching I was looking for a cast who could tell this well-loved story fearlessly and with joy. We are really pleased that each of our actors can now officially join the team and this rollercoaster ride of a story. We can’t wait for our audiences to join us all for the show soon."
