Yorkshire's Biggest Bike race is coming to Beverley!
Fri 13th March 2020Yorkshire’s Biggest Bike race taking place between 30th April and 3rd May - 4 days of pure cycling - starts in Beverley! The first stage of the ‘Le Tour’ starts out from Saturday Market Place on 30th April. Ahead of the cyclists lies 176.5km of road, two sprint sections, two climbs, beautiful views and iconic locations before reaching the finish in Redcar.
From the start the planned route traverses the Georgian Quarter, through North bar and out into the Molescroft area before returning into the town and turning up Norwood Road before heading out to Leven and beyond. On the day of the race Saturday Market will host street entertainment, with approximately 1000 school children taking part events on the day itself!
Le Tour is a wonderful opportunity for communities to get involved and make the event their own. Enter the Land Art or Best Dressed competitions, and let your inspiration run wild. There are four categories in Best Dressed - Best Dressed Village, Town, Host Location and ‘Spirit of the Tour’ for those who pull communities and business together and embrace the event! The official charity is Yorkshire Cancer Research, and the official artist for the event is Claire Baxter, who is currently working on 6 new pieces of art; Claire has a gallery in Pately Bridge.

Road closures will take place with full road closures at the start and finish of each race and rolling road closures in between. Expect rolling closures to last between 15 and 45 minutes to allow the cyclists to pass. Market place will be closed from 5pm on the 29th April, with closures on North Bar and Toll Gavel from 8.00am on the day of the race until 3pm. The car park down School Lane will also be closed form midnight on the 29th April. More details regarding timings of the event as well as road closures will be released nearer the time.
