Traffic lights to be turned on at Grovehill
Tue 3rd February 2015Following extensive alterations to the existing Grovehill roundabout, the new junction is nearing completion. Traffic signals are now being installed and are expected to be up and running by the end of this week, dependent on good weather over the next few days.
Nigel Leighton, director of environment and neighbourhood services, said: “As always with new traffic signal installations, there will be a need to adjust the signals over the following weeks, in order to achieve the best configuration.
“The new junction will play a vital role for traffic using the new Beverley Southern Relief Road which will take through traffic around the south of Beverley between the A164 Victoria Road and the new Grovehill junction, avoiding the town centre.
“As there will be more traffic using this junction, the roundabout has been replaced with a junction controlled by traffic signals to control the traffic flow better at this location. The junction arrangement also includes new facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.”
Following on from this, the new traffic signals at the altered Figham junction are also expected to come into operation in the week commencing Monday 9 February 2015.
These two new junctions form a vital part of the Beverley Integrated Transport Plan, along with traffic signs for the new route and the opening of the Beverley Southern Relief Road, expected in March 2015.
