Beverley Pasture Master Election completed in less than 3 hours!
Wed 2nd March 2016The annual election of Beverley's 12 Pasture Masters from it's Freemen living within Beverley, Molescroft and Woodmansey took place on March 1st at Beverley's Guildhall. The Pasture Masters look after the common land of the Westwood, Swinemoor and Figham and the cattle, sheep and horses which are grazed on that land. Returning Officers from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council ensure the election is conducted according to the ancient laws and presided over by The Mayor, who can terminate the proceedings after 1 hour of the election being open if a vote has not been cast within 20 minutes and there are enough votes to ensure 12 Pasture Masters can be appointed. This is a unique office and election.
