Tour de Yorkshire: Beverley Will Welcome World's Greatest Riders
Fri 15th April 2016With just 13 days to go until Stage 1 begins in Beverley, the Tour de Yorkshire have announced the World's biggest names in cycling that will be taking part.
Beverley will welcome Olympic champions, World Record holders, as well as Tour winners. From the provisional list of riders, 38 have taken on the gruelling challenge of the Tour de France, and 25 have competed in all three Grand Tours.
Among those are last year's Tour de Yorkshire winner Lars Petter Nordhaug of Team Sky, and Sir Bradley Wiggins, who now heads up team WIGGINS. We hope to see the crowd waving plenty of blue, yellow and Yorkshire flags, and maybe a happy birthday banner for Wiggins, who celebrates his birthday the day before the depart from Beverley.
Current British road champ Pete Kennaugh is on the roster too, as well as Mathew Hayman who won this yer's Paris-Roubaix. Australian team Orica GreenEDGE are entering brit Adam Yates and the Australian National Criterim Champion, Caleb Ewan.
Other big names that cycle enthusiasts may recognise are former record holder and TdF yellow jersey wearer Rohan Dennis, King of the Mountain 2015 Nicolas Edet and Ben Hermans, winner of Stage 3 of the Tour de Yorkshire last year.
Ten riders from Yorkshire will be in the men's race overall. Liam Holohan joins Team WIGGINS and Team GB includes Frazer Clacherty, Gabriel Cullaigh and Oliver Wood, with JLT Condor riders names as Russ Downing, Graham Brigg and Tom Moses. Tom Stewart will ride for Madison Genesis, Josh Edmonson for NFTO and honorary Yorkshireman Pete Williams for One Pro Cycling.
The women's race takes on a new format, with a full stage exactly the same as the men's race. World Champion Lizzie Armitstead will be joined by British Olympian Danielle King for Wiggle High5, Kirsten Wild for Hitec Products and Shelley Olds for Cylance Pro Cycling.
2015 winner Lousie Mahe will ride again with Les Filles Racing Team.
There will be full TV coverage of both races, as well of plenty of great locations to get out and see the caravan and riders pass for yourself.
