Tesco Community Grants have funded thousands of local community projects across the UK, helping schools, junior sports teams, foodbanks, charities and community groups. Since 2016 125 local projects voted on in Tesco’s Beverley store have received over £219,000 in grants.
In our local area the following groups will each benefit from the latest round of grants:
-
Cash for Kids Lincs and East Yorkshire received £1,500 for their school holiday support packages
-
Beverley High School received £1,000 for their Geoggers Fieldwork Club
-
Beverley Town Cricket Club received £500 for their girls cricket team
Laura Stead, Cash for Kids Charity Fundraising Executive, said: ‘’A heartfelt thank you to Tesco Beverley and their wonderful customers for this holiday hunger grant. School holidays bring immense financial pressure and food insecurity to many local families experiencing poverty. This vital funding stays 100% local and will be used immediately to provide emergency food support to vulnerable children in our region. We quite literally couldn't do our work without the incredible generosity of community hubs like Tesco Beverley.’’
Nicola Harriot, Head of Geography at Beverley High School, said: ''We would like to say a huge thank you to Tesco customers for supporting our Community Fund project. Thanks to your votes, we have been awarded funding to purchase specialist geography fieldwork equipment that will enrich learning for students across the school. From our lunchtime Geoggers club to GCSE and A-level investigations, students will have exciting opportunities to explore their local environment using professional tools and techniques. Your support is helping to develop curiosity, critical thinking and a greater understanding of the world around us. Thank you again!’’
Helen Mayoh, Beverley Town Cricket Club’s Girls Coach, said: "On behalf of the women and girls of Beverley Town Cricket Club, we can't thank Tesco Beverley enough for supporting us with the Stronger Starts campaign. The award of £500 will help us purchase much needed protective equipment to enable girls in the local area to come and try hardball cricket in a fun, friendly and supportive environment. We welcome anyone at the club, regardless of their cricketing experience, and hope they stay to become lifelong members, enjoy playing cricket and make great friendships along the way. We aim to remove as many barriers to getting into sport as possible, and providing this shared equipment to players is one step towards that goal."
David Ryley, Tesco Beverley’s Community Champion added: ''Tesco’s blue token community grants have been relaunched as Fruit and Veg Grants and we invite schools, registered charities and not-for-profit organisations to apply for grants that improve access to fruit and veg. We particularly welcome local projects that help young people access healthy, nutritional food. I can be contacted at beverley.community@tesco.com if you would like more information.
