Mayor of Beverley Launches Pride Competition
Thu 23rd July 2020Following on from the wonderful floral displays brightening up the town, the Mayor of Beverley will continue to lift the spirits of Beverley residents and visitors with colourful, vibrant flags throughout the town centre during the month of August in celebration and support for PRIDE and the LGBT community. In addition, the Mayor is running a new competition to find the most decorated and inspiring shop window display in support of PRIDE.
Beverly Mayor, Councillor Tom Astell explains:
“I have launched a new competition which originally would have been linked to one of the Town Council’s major planned events for this year, Beverley’s first Pride, originally to be held on 1st August 2020. Unfortunately the Town Council took the difficult decision to cancel Pride this year due to the current Coronovirus pandemic; however, every effort is being made throughout the Beverley to fill the town with colour during the month of August.
Wall-mounted flagpoles and flags attached to Beverley’s town centre shops will provide a colourful, powerful and spectacular effect throughout the town and to compliment this, I am launching the Mayor of Beverley’s PRIDE Shop Window Competition.
Throughout the month of August, I would like to encourage all shop owners and managers to get involved in creating vibrant, imaginative and inspiring shop window displays to show your support and pride for the LGBT community. The competition will run throughout August 2020 and I am sure there will be some fantastic entries. The competition will run from 1st to 31st August and judging will take place on 5th August 2020 by the Mayoral Team.
The result will be magnificent. The town centre will be filled with colour and oozing with pride for the LGBT community, during the month in which Beverley’s inaugural Pride was due to be held. If you would like to take part in this competition, please just dress your shop window by the judging date. Find more details on the Town Council’s website at www.beverley.gov.uk and I look forward to seeing wonderful windows during August and on judging day”.
