Guardian columnist Rhik Samadder is coming to Beverley

Rhik Samadder, actor and Guardian columnist, will be at Beverley Art Gallery on Friday, 18 October, at 3.30pm as part of the East Riding Festival of Words.
His first book, ‘I never said I loved you’, takes readers on a voyage of discovery through his own mental health and recovery from depression.
The book has been described as ‘searingly honest, heartbreakingly poignant and unexpectedly hilarious’.
Jameela Jamil, actress, writer and radio presenter, says : “Exploring the aftermath and effect of child abuse on the body, mind and memory, Samadder’s incredible memoir is written with both unexpected humour and heartbreaking honesty. “
Rhik is a very interesting, articulate and amusing speaker, and the book should appeal to readers of books by Matt Haig, and anybody who enjoys a great memoir.
Councillor Shaun Horton, portfolio holder for tourism, culture and leisure, said: “ East Riding Libraries stock a range of books on prescription about common mental health issues, and it is a real coup that we have managed to attract Rhik to the East Riding Festival of Words.”
The event will be hosted by local author Louise Beech whose book ‘Call Me Star Girl’ recently won Book of the Year in the Big Book Awards 2019.
