Free Community Yoga Classes To Jump Start The New Year
Sat 30th December 2017Local people are being offered the opportunity to sample yoga classes for free at St Mary’s Church, Beverley during the first week of 2018. The invitation is a bid to raise awareness of the benefits of this ancient Indian practice and help people enjoy a healthy start to the New Year.
The sessions are being offered by Dr Stewart Richmond, founder of Sydera Yoga Yorkshire, who delivers yoga classes at venues across North and East Yorkshire including St Mary’s Church, Beverley and also York Yoga Studio:
“As a Health Scientist I have spent many years researching different interventions to improve physical and mental wellbeing. I first became a yoga practitioner, and then a yoga teacher, after discovering the positive impact that yoga has on the mind and body. Coming together in a yoga class helps to build friendships but more importantly, the practice itself helps to maintain flexibility, strengthen the body and settle the mind. We lead such busy and often stressful lives, it’s absolutely vital that we don’t neglect our own body’s needs and allow ourselves a bit of time out to calm the mental chatter. It’s about finding space for oneself, to better cope with life’s many challenges.”
“I’m thrilled to be delivering the classes in the new Parish Hall. During the recent flooding and restoration of the Hall, the Friday night Ashtanga class was given temporary permission to practice in the actual church, whilst the choir rehearsed. It was an amazing experience, both the church and the choir song were beautiful. That said, we are glad to be back in the Hall now, the new floor is looking great and it has all the modern facilities we could want. Everyone at St Mary’s Church has been incredibly supportive, the health and well being of the local community is a major consideration to them so my classes have had a very warm reception. This is another reason I am introducing a Hatha yoga class in January, as it is a gentler option that ensures people of all abilities can access and enjoy the benefits of exercise.”
The FREE community yoga classes are open to all and take place in St Mary’s newly renovated Parish Hall on Friday 5th January. These are introductory taster classes, with no obligation to continue. Everyone is welcome to join in and try one or both classes. Booking in advance is recommended as class mats are limited, places can be booked by calling or texting 07787 588208 or by e-mail: info@yorkshire.yoga
