Olympic Gold Medalist to run Beverley 10k
Mon 30th April 2018Beverley AC is excited to announce that Olympic gold and bronze medal-winning rower Phelan Hill MBE will be competing in the 25th running of the Pittaway Beverley 10k road race, on Sunday 13 May 2018.
As cox, Phelan steered the Mens Eight to bronze at the London 2012 Olympics and onto gold in Rio 2016. He has also coxed the Mens Eights to three successive rowing World Championship golds.
Phelan’s participation is a welcome addition to what will be a highly-anticipated event on 13 May, seeing 1,750 runners run the 6.2 mile route through Beverley town centre, over the Westwood pasture and heading back in to finish in Wednesday Market.
Phelan is equally excited: “This is going to be my first competitive race since Rio 2016. I am used to racing on water, but I can’t wait to get my running shoes on. It’s great to see events like this encouraging so many people to get active and it is fantastic for the local community. I look forward to saying hello to all the runners and spectators out there!”
Beverley AC would like to thank the residents of the town for their continued support of the race and look forward to seeing thousands of spectators line the course on race day. The event will also include the B&A Scaffolding 2km fun run, ideal for family participation.
Entries for the 10k sold out in under six hours when they went on sale in early February, however some entries for the fun run remain available.
