Consultation Survey Underway For Proposed Cycle Improvements Between Cottingham And Hull

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is currently consulting affected residents and businesses in Cottingham on their views on a proposed scheme to improve cycle facilities along Bricknell Avenue, Hull Road and Thwaite Street.

The scheme aims to support local people cycling between Cottingham and Hull for commuting, travelling to school and accessing other amenities in the area. It will offer further cycle convenience, safety and route choice.

The proposals include new sections of off-road shared cycle/footway, a new toucan crossing, widening existing on-road cycle lanes, part removal of centre lines on narrower sections of road, surface condition improvements to cycle lanes, and revised on-road cycle lanes on Bricknell Avenue to include ‘wands’ (flexible bollards) to better protect cyclists, whilst retaining all existing on-street parking.

The council is now seeking feedback on the proposals and cycling in general. A consultation survey is open for the public to access and complete until Thursday 7 October, and can be found here.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been successful in gaining funding through a joint bid with Hull City Council for improvements to cycle routes between Hull and Cottingham and between Hull and Beverley. This project has been supported with £500,000 from the Government’s Getting Building Fund, secured by the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire’s Local Enterprise Partnership (HEY LEP) as part of the Government’s commitment to the Northern Powerhouse.

The acquired funding has already been used to create an additional section of off-road shared cycle/footway alongside the A1079 Beverley Road to complete the Beverley to Hull route within the East Riding area.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been working on proposals as a joint approach with Hull City Council. Details of plans within the Hull City area can be viewed here.
