Beverley FM hits the airwaves

Beverley FM, the new local radio station for Beverley and surrounding East Yorkshire villages, will commence broadcasting on Tuesday 20 January at 9am, on 107.8FM.
Test transmissions on the same frequency have already started. It has been a long road to get to this stage, with it being eight months since Ofcom announced that Beverley FM had been successful in winning a community radio licence for the town.
Volunteers and contractors have worked very hard to get the broadcast studios completed and ready for live programmes. Situated at Longcroft School in Molescroft, the state-of-the-art broadcast facilities are now fully operational.
Station director Dave Fewster, who leads the group of local radio professionals, businessmen and volunteers, and won the broadcast licence in May 2014, said: "The studio installation is ready and Ofcom tells us we can start broadcasting on 20 January. Currently, we are finalising the programme schedule with our volunteer broadcasters and staff - it's all very exciting.
"The directors of Beverley FM have been amazed by the level of support given by Longcroft School headteacher Mr Ian O'Donnell, and his staff and school governors. We cannot praise them enough."
Beverley FM is one of over 250 new not-for-profit community radio stations licensed throughout the UK. It is envisaged that Beverley FM will provide an exciting mix of programmes, music, entertainment, news and sport, all with a distinct local feel, 24 hours a day.
Station broadcast engineers are asking the public to listen to test transmissions on 107.8FM and report via email to studio@beverleyfm where they are located and the the quality of the signal.
