Beverley Grammar School Holds Student Showcase

Beverley Grammar School was proud to host their end of year Student Showcase recently. The students have worked hard all year and this was a lovely way to show off their talents to parents, carers, friends and the other students.
The event compere was Sixth Form Student Tom Marton, a very funny guy that even held the evening together when there was a technology blip with an amplifier! Tom sealed his all-round skills for entertainment by singing two songs and acting in a comedy sketch from Monty Python with three other boys from across the school year groups, Tom Wright, Alex Barrett and Luke Young.
In a break from the traditional singing and musical acts we were entertained by Magician, Will Blanchard. In a breath-taking performance of illusion and skill, Will included members of the audience in his acts, much to the horror of the Dads involved but much to the amusement of the rest of the crowd.
Music from a variety of genres was provided from a Classical trio to an award winning rock band, Unorthodox. A number of the boys had also written their own songs and almost all prepared their own arrangements. We were rewarded with a rousing rendition of ‘March’ on the bagpipes by Morgan Gray who was wearing full Scottish regalia.
Parent Governor, Louise Barrett commented ‘This is my first end of year showcase; this evening really did show off the talent of boys in Beverley, some awesome music, amazing magic and the super 4 Yorkshire Men Monty Python sketch. Seeing my husband as a ‘volunteer’ in the magic sketch, was just priceless!’
The evening finished with a group finale which included the staff from the music department on the instruments with the boys singing 'Shut up and dance' by Walk the Moon.
All in all it was a fabulous night of entertainment. The boys may have been the stars of the show but it would not have been possible without the help of the staff, Zoe Hughes and Rebecca Marshall organised the event and rehearsed the students, Dan Robinson and Dave Hughes looked after sound and performed in the finale with the students.
Jez Clifton was involved with setting up and was the photographer for the evening, Emma Good was in charge of refreshments with assistance on the night from Erin Barker, Kelly Briggs and Jess Atkinson and lastly Athina Papanikolaou supervised the students back stage on the night.
