Sky rides come to town
Wed 25th June 2014Beverley residents are invited to dust off their bikes and make the most of a new programme of free, guided bike rides this summer.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has joined forces with British Cycling to bring a series of Sky Ride Local bike rides to the area.
Councillor Chris Matthews, cabinet portfolio holder for infrastructure, highways and emergency planning, said: “Cycling has never been more popular, especially with the Grand Depart of the 2014 Tour De France taking place in Yorkshire in July. Whatever your age or fitness level, it’s easy to get involved with Sky Ride Local.
“We’re delighted to be working with British Cycling to make it even easier for local people to get out on their bikes and have some fun this summer.”
The first Beverley Sky Ride Local ride takes place on Sunday, 29 June, at 10am, starting from the Public Car Park at the end of Thurlow Avenue off Copandale Road, a steady seven-mile ride perfect for family groups.
Sky Ride Locals are guided by friendly British Cycling Ride Leaders along scenic, planned routes. The rides cater for all ages and abilities and run at different levels so there’s something for everyone, whether you’re building your confidence or already comfortable on a bike and looking for a challenge.
Other rides will take place at different locations in the East Riding during June, July, August and September.
