Saturday Market relaunch
Wed 30th April 2014East Riding of Yorkshire Council is proud to announce a special event in Beverley on Saturday 10 May to relaunch the town’s Saturday Market.
Between 10am and 3pm, Saturday Market will be bustling with music, cookery demonstrations, and fun for all the family, in addition to all the usual Saturday Market stalls, which will be open until 4pm.
The National Market Traders Federation will be hosting their ‘Making Markets Matter’ event, featuring competitions, face painting, free giveaways and games to entertain the whole family.
At 11am, Michael Wood, East Riding of Yorkshire Town Crier and current British champion, will read the Market Proclamation at the Market Cross, which will be followed by a welcome to the event by the chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council. From 11.20am, and again at 12.30pm and 2.30pm, Beverley Brass Band will perform.
There will also be cookery demonstrations by James Mackenzie, chef and owner of the Michelin-starred Pipe and Glass Inn at South Dalton, at 11.50am; more cookery demonstrations throughout the day; and the winners of the recent East Riding Bake Off competition will demonstrate their winning recipes using food leftovers at 1.45pm.
Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, commented: “This event will be a great opportunity to celebrate what is best about Beverley and its vibrant Saturday Market. I very much hope that lots of residents and visitors will come along to share the atmosphere of what will be a very special day for the town”.
