Congratulations Parkway Beverley!
Fri 11th October 2019Parkway Cinema Beverley has just been shortlisted for the Screen Awards ‘Cinema of the Year’ in the ’24 screens and under’ category! This is the second time the cinema has been nominated in this category - the first time being in 2017.
Just to be shortlisted is an honour in itself; Parkway Beverley stands in the company of 7 other cinemas located across the country with exceptional prowess in engaging with their audience. There are a range of criteria that contribute to being shortlisted, which include positive ventures that set a cinema apart, engagement with the local community, the daily running of the cinema and their involvement with the film industry.
Parkway Beverley, now open for 4 years, have run a range of successful programs that are in part responsible for their shortlisting. These include regularly running autism-friendly and dementia-friendly screenings, which although being open to all, are adjusted to the requirements of the audience - reduced volume perhaps, increased lighting and appropriate films. Both of these ventures have been extremely successful - the autism friendly screenings were certainly a hit over the summer, not least due to the wonderfully supportive communities that have been involved. Working alongside the charity Dementia Friendly East Riding, staff at Parkway received training in working with those with Dementia and additional signage has been put in place making the experience more accessible.
Other factors that contributed to the shortlisting include opening up the cinema for school tours, the range of films being screened, as well as regularly being the only cinema in the East Riding to release certain films.
Parkway Beverley are certainly doing something right and feedback from the community demonstrates this with excellent ratings on Trip Advisor, Google and Facebook.
The Awards Ceremony is taking place on 28th November at The Ballroom Southbank, London, and we wish the Parkway Beverley team the best of luck!
