Champney Treasure House Hosts Poetry Exhibition

Champney Treasure House, in Beverley, is hosting an exhibition to highlight the High Wolds Poetry Festival.

Poetry for All centres around the High Wolds Poetry Festival, a partnership between East Riding museums and local poets. The festival is set to take place at Kilham village hall on Saturday 27 September, after being held in North Dalton for the last six occasions.

The festival was launched in 2019 with the aim of nurturing the talents of first time, emerging, and more established poets, and give them a platform to engage with a wider audience.

The exhibition at Champney Treasure house will enable visitors to listen to a selection of poems or write their own, that could be included in the festival’s annual book.

Visitors will be able to find out more about the festival, which includes live poetry readings, local produce, and a selection of objects from East Riding Museum collections.

In the lead up to the festival, East Riding Museums and the festivals team will also run a free poetry workshop in North Newbald village hall on Tuesday 22 July.

The exhibition is being hosted in the Community Space on the ground floor of the Champney Treasure House and runs until the end of September.

The community space forms part of the refurbished building, opened December 2024, and contains the library, museum and art gallery, as well as a café.

Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism said, “It’s great to see the High Wolds poetry festival go from strength to strength, and the exhibition at Champney Treasure House is a fantastic opportunity to find out more about this vibrant community event.”
