Providing a brief overview of his background, the new Captain, aged 58, recounted his affiliation with Beverley and East Riding Golf Club since 2011. Originating from Dunfermline (Fife), he disclosed a significant portion of his professional life spent in the British army, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Encouraging member participation in upcoming events, he called upon members to join his fundraising efforts by entering the Beverley 10km on May 12th. He also sought volunteers to take part in a unique golf challenge on June 20th, coinciding with the summer solstice, where participants will attempt to complete five rounds of golf in a single day. Acknowledging the charitable aspect of the game, he urged support for those engaging in fundraising efforts.
Details regarding the Captain's Weekend on August 10th/11th and the away weekend at Ramside Hall in County Durham on September 1st/2nd were shared. New members were warmly welcomed, and Ian expressed his desire to foster camaraderie throughout the year among all club members.
Ian said: "I would like to thank everyone that voted for me to become your captain for 2024. Thanks also to all the Club's past Captains, especially Ben Gardiner who has helped me last year during my vice captaincy. I'm sure all members will give my vice captain Stefan Martinson the same support that you gave me."
