CITY OF CULTURE VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS CLOSE THIS WEEK

With applications to sign up to become a Hull City of Culture volunteer closing this Sunday 17 June, time is running out to join the blue-coated army.
The award-winning City of Culture Volunteers became an iconic image of Hull’s incredible year as the UK City of Culture. With last year just the beginning, the programme’s growth continues this year and there’s just one week left to join the action.
Last month, Absolutely Cultured was announced as the new name for the company that delivered Hull’s incredible year of arts and culture in 2017. The company will continue the Volunteering programme, working across arts and culture opportunities while also expanding to new sectors across the city.
Shaun Crummey, Head of Volunteering at Absolutely Cultured, said:"The City of Culture Volunteers are a huge, enthused, curious, articulate family that has gone from strength to strength. They have already achieved so much, making an incredible impact on the people of this city and those who visited during our special year.
“While the programme will continue in arts and culture, we’re also including opportunities in other areas, such as health and wellbeing, community and sport. We have momentum to continue to grow and do even more for the city and volunteers alike.”
Not only will the continuing Volunteer Programme benefit the regeneration of the city, it is a great opportunity to meet different people, make new friends and gain valuable skills and experience through supporting various events, and attending workshops and masterclasses.
Jack Whileblood is an over 70s rep and has been supporting Hull’s City of Culture bid since 2015. He describes the impact volunteering has had on his life.
“As volunteers, we’re warmly welcomed wherever we go. I’ve had so many people approach me and congratulate me on the fantastic job we’re doing.
“I love everything about it, from going on duty for Absolutely Cultured to getting involved with events and meeting other volunteers. Putting on the blue jacket is a transformative experience. I’ve got a big heart for Hull and I’m proud to be able to share that with others.”
