Graham is working with Meld Energy to get government approval for its proposed green hydrogen facility
at Saltend Chemical Park, which will create over a thousand constructions jobs over the next four years.
Graham visited the site of the potential £200 million investment and will continue to push the government
to approve the scheme.
Graham spoke to Meld CEO Chris Smith about how the government is dragging its heels on making a
decision about the project, which should have been moved to the next stage of approval last Autumn.
Graham raised the importance of this funding directly with the Prime Minister in Parliament in November,
urging the release of the funding for hydrogen projects.
Saltend is home to some of Britain’s leading chemical manufacturers and energy producers including BP,
Mitsubishi and Ineos. It is one of the UK’s leading processers of natural gas and employs approximately a
thousand people at businesses across its 370 acre site.
Saltend’s hydrogen plant would create hydrogen from renewable energy sources to help power the facility,
reducing its reliance on gas and other fossil fuels.
Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, commented, “I want to see
Beverley and Holderness thrive, and a green hydrogen facility at Saltend could be just what we need to do
that.
“That’s why I’m working with Meld Energy to get the government to give the green light to this
project.
“I had a very interesting visit to Saltend to meet Meld and it’s clear that they have what it takes to
bring a thousand new jobs to our area.
“I can’t wait to do what I can to make sure Meld Energy has the support it needs so it can
support the people of Holderness.”
