The council’s road safety team will be visiting markets across the East Riding and launching a new web page this week to mark national Road Safety Week 2021, running this week.

The team from East Riding of Yorkshire Council is inviting residents along to meet them as they set up stalls at three local markets, and they will be offering advice and information as part of the national event, which is running from 15-21 November.

The team will be at:

  • Pocklington market on Tuesday 16 November.
  • Beverley market on Wednesday 17 November
  • Driffield market on Thursday 18 November.

The team is also launching a brand new website to mark the national event, dedicated to keeping people safe on the roads.

Residents are being urged to visit, which features advice for drivers, parents, schools, and how to stay safe as a pedestrian, cyclist, horse rider of motorcyclist.

Cllr Chris Matthews, the council’s portfolio holder for environment and climate change, said: “People seem to think accidents will never happen to them. We want to do all we can to help prevent accidents in the first place.

“We want to get the road safety message out there in order to keep all users safe on the East Riding’s roads, and we want to encourage residents to visit the team if they can and to visit the new website.”
