Beverley Celebrates Yorkshire Day
Mon 27th July 2015Beverley Town Council and Beverley Minster have come together to celebrate Yorkshire Day in Beverley on Saturday 1 August.
The event follows on from the success of other events the Town Council and the Minster have worked on together.
It will be a Yorkshire day of celebration and will take place within the Minster grounds and inside the Minster.
To start the day, the Mayor of Beverley will be holding his Civic Service at 11.30am.
The service will be followed by a family garden party in the grounds of the Minster from 1pm. There will be lots of traditional garden party stalls and attractions such as splat the rat, hook-a-duck, vintage fairground rides, swing boats, stocks, a teddy bears picnic and tombola.
The entertainment doesn't stop there as Indigo Moon Theatre will be presenting Saraswati dancing marionettes and Poppy Spolognaise, plus children's circus skills and a fancy dress competition with a Yorkshire theme with a prize for the winner.
If all this entertainment gives you an appetite, delicious cream teas will be available along with other food stalls.
Live music will be courtesy of Beverley Brass Band, Beverley Garland Dancers, along with other musicians from the Westwood Sessions will add to the celebration in true Yorkshire style.
A grand finale ‘Patchwork of Beverley Musical Proms’ concert starts from 5.30pm inside the Minster, where there will be an exciting line-up of local entertainment to include Dr Jive and the Sick-notes, Beverley Brass Band and Westwood Session artists.
The Mayor of Beverley Cllr Peter Astell said, "I am looking forward to the inaugural Yorkshire day celebrations in Beverley. Beverley Town Council is happy to be working with Beverley Minster again. I will also be holding my Civic Service at 11.30am to start the celebrations. It offers a great opportunity to my Mayoral Charities, Beverley Community Lift and the Beverley Stroke Club to raise awareness of two worthwhile local charities. Any funds raised will be shared between the charities and the Minster. We hope lots of residents and visitors will come along and celebrate".
Admission is free to the garden party and the proms are by charity donation on the door. For further details contact Town Clerk Helen Watson at Beverley Town Council via email clerk@beverley.gov.uk or teleophone 01482 874096.
