Thu 2nd January 2025Try January provides the opportunity to explore a number of courses on offer at East Riding Council’s
Adult Learning Centre in Beverley.
The short sessions are perfect for anyone looking for inspiration, seeking a new hobby or wanting to
make friends. With a relaxed and positive approach from the staff, anyone is welcome.
The choice of free to attend creative courses include dressmaking, creative writing and photography.
Those seeking to explore family and health matters there are variety of options to consider such as
mindfulness, neurodiversity, and mental health sessions. Courses run during the day and evenings at
the Burden Road centre in Beverley. Other dates are available in Bridlington, Cottingham, and Goole.
A spokesperson from the Adult Learning team based explained how the experience is different to
school: “No one wants to go back to school. That’s not what we do here. It’s nothing like that. It
doesn’t matter if someone wants to improve their maths to get a better job, learn Spanish, write a
novel, or get to grips with tricky mobile phone apps. It’s all about making friends and building
confidence. There’s absolutely no pressure.”
A new offer for learners to explore is the Financial Literacy pathway. This new offering aims to
improve budgeting and money management.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council leader Councillor Anne Handley said: “East Riding Adult Services
provide vital learning opportunities, and the financial literacy courses can play an invaluable role in
helping people manage their money and improve their skills. I encourage interested residents to sign
up and take advantage of the courses on offer.”
