Poll cards not required to vote in General Election

Residents across the East Riding who are eligible to take part in next week’s general election do not need a poll card in order to vote.

The general election will take place on Thursday, 12 December and in the East Riding, five seats will be contested.

Beverley and Holderness, East Yorkshire as well as Haltemprice and Howden will be administered by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Brigg and Goole will be administered by North Lincolnshire Council while Hull City Council will be responsible for the Hull West and Hessle count.

Poll cards are sent out to all registered voters shortly before an election and gives information about the election; the location, opening and closing times of the polling station as well as the name, address and electoral number of the voter.

If a poll card has not been received or it has been lost or misplaced, as long as people are on the electoral register and are eligible to vote in this election, they can go to their local polling station and give their name and address and they will be issued with a ballot paper.

Polling stations across the East Riding will be open from 7am to 10pm and a list of polling stations can be found at www.wheredoivote.co.uk

Caroline Lacey, returning officer, said: “Many people are put off from voting because they don’t have a poll card but they can still attend their polling station, give their name and address and they will be able to vote.”
