A New Sand Sculpture in Oldroyd’s Garden!
Just after Paul Oldroyd opened ‘Oldroyd’s Garden’, a sensory garden located at the back of Beverley Garden Centre he got in touch with Paul and Remy Hoggard to commission a sand sculpture for visitors to enjoy. Paul and Remy are professional sand sculptors and have been busy working around the world, including places such as America, Bulgaria, Qatar and the Maldives, as well as working on other projects based in Beverley.
Oldroyd’s Garden has a similar ambience to the Eden Project, but is on a much smaller scale. It is an area to sit, relax and get back to nature in a beautiful garden environment, a chance for people to just ‘be’ in peace.
Paul and Remy have finally been able to fulfil Paul Oldroyd’s request. ‘The Sand Maiden’ took two days to complete and was inspired by ‘The Mud Maid,’ by Sue Hill and her brother Pete, in the Lost Gardens of Heligan. The sand for the figure was reclaimed from previous statues at Beverley Minster and St. Mary’s Church.
‘The Sand Maiden’ is now available to view in all its glory in Oldroyd’s Garden, at the back of the Beverley Garden Centre, Hull Road, Woodmansey, Beverley, HU17 0RS.
