One Year At Flemingate for East Riding College
Fri 29th July 2016Students and staff at East Riding College are celebrating the end of their first year at the new Beverley campus at the Flemingate Centre.
The £14m campus opened in September 2015 after a 12-month construction project led by Hull firm Houlton and has proven a huge success.
The first academic year has seen enrolments increase by more than 15 per cent - with applications for 2016/17 significantly higher again - as well as one of the best Ofsted inspection reports in the country this year.
Principal Derek Branton said: “Our first year in the new campus has even surpassed the very high expectations we had. “Having such a modern learning environment really inspires students to aim high and, as Ofsted remarked, it provides the industry standard equipment that they will be using in the world of work."
“We are delighted that the increased visibility and accessibility of the College has resulted in increased enrolments and to have such a glowing Ofsted report was the icing on the cake.”
Ofsted inspectors graded the College as “good” under the new, tougher inspection regime, with student behaviour and welfare, and courses for adults being classed as “outstanding”.
Inspectors praised the “culture of high expectations”, the outstanding learning facilities and the close alignment of its courses with the skills needs of the local economy.
Their glowing report also highlighted well qualified tutors who are role models for students, high levels of positive progression into employment and further study, and the ambitions of the Principal and senior team which staff are highly motivated to achieve.
The new location has also seen the College’s restaurant, hair and beauty salon and travel agent, all of which are open to the public, becoming very busy with paying customers.
The Energy Technology Centre, which is part of the campus, has also become a very popular conference and events location for businesses and regional and national organisations. For more information about the College, visit the East Riding College website.
