ArtWaves Open Exhibition reminder, release of Children's Exhibition and Judging line up release
Fri 23rd March 2018In less than two months the ArtWaves Festival will return to Bridlington Spa for the fourth year with a vibrant programme on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 May.
The highly anticipated Open Exhibition is set to receive a record number of entries, with a closing date of Friday 6th April. Applicants can purchase and submit their artworks up until that date.
The Open Exhibition will be on display at Bridlington Spa Gallery throughout the festival as well as as the week before forming part of the ArtWaves Fringe, with members of the public encouraged to vote for their favourite piece.
ArtWaves has also announced the official judging line up for the weekend, a group of five individuals who will select the overall winner and runner up based on a combination of artistic quality and overall appeal of the piece.
The line up ; 2017 double Open Exhibition winner Stephen Cavill, national artist Charles Evans, returning ArtWaves artist Catherine Inglis, BBC Radio Humberside’s Phil White and Councillor Richard Burton.
ArtWaves is also launching its first Young Peoples Exhibition as part of the ArtWaves Young Creatives strand for those aged 16 and under. Winners will be selected on the main festival weekend and be in with a chance of winning a special prize as well as the title of ArtWaves Festival 2018 Young Artist Winner.
The Young Peoples Exhibition is free to enter, created artworks should be no bigger than A3 sized and can be brought to Bridlington Spa on Saturday 12th May to be put on display.
Lauren Frost, Festival Director said, “The Open Exhibition is a large part of the festival, one that is very well received. This year we made the decision not to include a theme, giving artists free rein to submit their best works. For 2018 we have decided to expand the exhibition from the Gallery and run onto the Royal Hall balcony with the collaboration of the Young Peoples Exhibition and Open Air Painting Competition entries. This means we are able to showcase even more artworks and the contribution from local artists will be bigger than ever before.”
The full ArtWaves programme will be announced by the end of March and at that time can be downloaded from www.bridspa.com/ArtWaves
