Charities Join Forces To Enhance Mental Health Support For Older Adults

Beverley Housing Charity and local mental health charity, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind have announced that they will be working together to further provide mental health support to residents and older adults in the Beverley community.

Recognising the critical importance of mental health and wellbeing, this collaboration will enable both organisations to pool their expertise and offer services to those who need it most.

The availability of these support sessions has been made possible by an existing partnership between Hull and East Yorkshire Mind and East Riding of Yorkshire Council Public Health and the two charities want to raise awareness of this support, specifically amongst older adults in Beverley.

As an almshouse charity, Beverley Housing Charity has supported the housing needs of local people for more than two hundred years. Recent changes introduced by its Chief Executive, take an holistic approach to support. Taking action against social isolation and addressing mental health issues are at the forefront of these improvements.

Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, a leading mental health charity in the local area, brings extensive experience in mental health support services, making this partnership a perfect fit to address the unique needs of older adults. In addition to counselling and group support, the charity also offers bereavement support, support to individuals who have experienced domestic abuse, and support in people’s own homes.

Andy Barber, CEO at Beverley Housing Charity, says: “Our charity ethos is to help residents live, not just exist. Having a warm and secure home, feeling part of a community and being aware of mental health issues are just as important as their physical health in later life. Therefore, this collaboration with Hull and East Yorkshire Mind is a significant step in our mission to create a thriving, supportive community for our residents."

Lisa Johnson, Community Based Services Manager, added: “Good mental health should be a priority for everyone, and we are delighted to be working with Beverley Housing Charity to broaden support available for older people. Our group sessions, delivered across Hull and the East Riding, are designed to give individuals the tools and techniques to better understand and improve their mental health.”
