East Riding Libraries are taking part in the Booktrust Storytime Prize and are looking for library customers to get involved and vote for their favourites.

The prize, which is in its fourth year, celebrates and promotes the best books for sharing with young children.

An expert panel chose the shortlisted books with insights from librarians and families, and the nominees will now face a public vote from children, families and librarians.

Seven East Riding Libraries will be offering storytime sessions for each shortlisted title, giving customers the chance to listen to the stories, explore the books and vote for their favourites:

  • Beverley Library
  • Bridlington Central Library
  • Cottingham Library & Customer Service Centre
  • Driffield Library & Customer Service Centre
  • Hessle Library & Customer Service Centre
  • Hornsea Library & Customer Service Centre
  • North Bridlington Library.

They will all be presenting different books across different weeks - the first one will be Nature Trail by Benjamin Zephaniah at Hornsea on 31 October from 10am-10.45am.  The last is Can You Tickle A Tiger by Bobbie Brooks at Bridlington Central Library on 9 February, 2023, from 10am-11am.

Librarian Kimberley Harston is keen to have a wide range of input to the voting: “We are really pleased to be part of the Booktrust Storytime Prize. We have always taken great pride in our junior book collections, so it is a real privilege to be actively involved in choosing a winner. Most importantly, we value feedback from our customers and so we are really pleased to be able to involve them in the voting process”.

Details of all the sessions can be found here: https://www.eastridinglibraries.co.uk/whats-on/

All the titles can be found at all East Riding Libraries, and they can be reserved and borrowed in the branches or online now.
