Work to start on The Beverley Arms Hotel
Tue 21st March 2017Thwaites will start work on The Beverley Arms in the next few weeks, after planners gave approval for temporary access to the rear of the site during construction work.
Lifting the restrictions was necessary to allow access the back of the property during the course of construction work, where a 1960s eyesore will be demolished.
At yesterday’s meeting of East Riding Council's Eastern Area Planning Sub-Committee, that permission was granted.
Chief Executive Officer at Thwaites, Rick Bailey, said: “This is the result we hoped for and at last the people of Beverley are going to get The Beverley Arms back.
“We will start work on site in the next few weeks and one of the first things we’ll be doing is demolishing the 1960s eyesore that detracts from the view of St Mary’s from the Westwood.
”We will put The Beverley Arms back at the heart of the area - its new look will be fantastic and we look forward to welcoming people to the opening in 2018.”
Thwaites multi-million pound redevelopment of the site will help secure the long term future of the building and create 60 new jobs.
Overall there will be around 40 new, high quality bedrooms, a restaurant and bar with a number of private dining and meeting rooms.
Thwaites has a proven track record of restoring historic buildings and The Beverley Arms will join its growing collection of inns and hotels.
The most recent addition will be the Crown Inn, Pooley Bridge, which launches just before Easter following a multi-million pound investment.
