Home baking for Brownies & Blondies
Thu 20th March 2014Brownies & Blondies have called time on their shop on North Bar, after three years of trading.
But, all is not lost, as they have decided to continue the business from home, donning their aprons and wielding their wooden spoons, to provide a personal door-to-door service for their customers, delivering to Beverley on a Friday morning.
Emma Lynn, who runs the business, decided the time was right to get back to baking, and did explore the option of expanding the business into larger premises, but ultimately decided that this would have an impact on the personal customer experience on which the shop prided itself.
"I think people love the personal touch that they get in the shop, and I think that would be lost if it became bigger," she said.
"We have been overwhelmed by people's reactions to us closing our doors, and it was a hard decision because trade was still increasing.
"Opening in a recession with having no previous experience of running a business, and we have become busier and busier, with a very loyal customer base and student following.
"My heart truly lies in baking; that's why I opened Brownies & Blondies and, luckily for me, it's really taken off. So much so, I thought I would set up the pop up bakery from home and keep on delivering cakes to people's doors.
"You can find my cakes at The English Muse on Newland Avenue in Hull, and I am keen to take on more business now my shop has closed.
"I'm not hanging up my apron. People can order the same cakes that they bought from me before."
