Treasure Trail links community to support two local charities

Schools, nurseries, Baden Powell groups, businesses, Beverley residents and visitors have come together in support of two local charities.
A total of £700 was raised from a charity Easter Egg Treasure Hunt, which saw families and young people taking part in a trail spreading right across Beverley. The ‘treasure’ being searched for was 20 A2-sized Easter eggs which had been colourfully hand decorated by local schools, nurseries and Baden Powell Rainbow groups, and then ‘hidden’ in businesses across the town.
The event was organised by local charities Beverley Community Lift and Yorkshire Cancer Research, and the proceeds will be shared equally between them.
CEO of Beverley Community Lift Jan Stainforth said: “We are delighted that so many families and young people took part in our Treasure Hunt, and helped to raise funds to help us to take elderly and disabled people out and about. The treasure hunt entrants and the children that decorated the eggs had a great time, and really enjoyed taking part.
Jan continued: “We are so grateful for the support of the local businesses, and we hope that this event benefits everyone involved. Events such as this really bring the community together. It helps us to help other local people who may be feeling lonely or socially isolated, and let them feel like part of that community too.”
Adrienne Hodgson, Yorkshire Cancer Research Regional Fundraiser for East Yorkshire, said: “This joint initiative with Beverley Community Lift helps us to raise not only much-needed funds, but also raises awareness our two charities, and the work that we do for local people.
“We are really grateful to the Parkway Cinema in Beverley for donating five cinema tickets; to Tesco’s for the donation of Easter Eggs and box of chocolates for the winners of the treasure hunt competition; and to Flemingate Shopping Centre for donating £100 to the winner of the ‘best decorated egg’.
Jo Radley and her family were selected as the winners from the correct treasure hunt entries, and they received five cinema tickets, an Easter egg, and chocolates. Jo said: “My brother Marc and I decided to take part in the Treasure Hunt as a fun family activity to do with our children. We were absolutely delighted to be chosen, and to win these great prizes.”
Cherry Burton CE Primary School’s egg, decorated with chocolates by the Year 6 class, was voted winner of the ‘best decorated egg’, and received £100 from Flemingate Shopping Centre. Year 6 teacher Mrs Sandbach said: “The children are so delighted to have their decorated egg chosen as the winner. We hope to use the prize money to provide a treat or outing for the year 6 children.”
The businesses taking part in the charity Easter Egg Treasure Hunt were: Peel Vets in North Bar Without, Hair by Rosie, Quick and Clarke, St Mary’s Church, Andrews and Rogers, Beverley Community Lift Charity Shop, Vanessa’s Café, White Rabbit Chocolatiers, M & Co, Laura Ashley, Jojo Maman Bebe, Tourist Information, Marks & Spencer, The Monks Walk, The Minster, Design Orchard, Parkway Cinema, Starbucks, Debenhams, Wilko.
