Beau Chan aged 10 represents EYJA.
Tue 25th February 2020Last weekend saw the Samurai Judo Championships taking place in Kidderminster. Representing East Yorkshire Judo Academy was Beau Chan, a 10 year old player who is growing in stature with each competition he enters. The Championships are designed for developing players so that everybody gets to fight opponents of a similar grade. Beau however was the youngest in his group of judoka up to 14 years old.
In his first fight Beau threw his opponent with a lovely Uchi Mata, following up with a secure hold down to win the fight. Another point scoring throw won the second fight which put Beau into the finals. It was a very close fight seeing Beau take the lead with a great foot sweep, which he has been practising a lot in training. He held on to his lead for most of the fight but was caught in a hold down with seconds to go. Unfortunately he couldn't escape the hold and had to settle for second place overall. A silver medal for Beau against the older boys was a good achievement and his coach on the day was very impressed with his good level of technique and his determination to get stuck in.
Also representing East Yorkshire Judo Academy this weekend were Eleanor Buckle and Ellesha Tennison. The girls were in attendance at the British Judo training centre in Walsall. The weekend was for the North a and South Regional England Development Squads to meet and all train together. A hard weekend of training was had by all with both girls demonstrating their skills on a mat in front of some of England’s high level judo coaches.
If you'd like to try judo, EYJA train in Hull and Beverley.
