Beverley Town Council welcomed representatives from its twin town of Fucecchio, Italy, to a civic reception held at the Monks Walk Inn on Friday 12th December. The visit formed part of a weekend programme hosted by members of the Beverley–Nogent Twinning Association, giving the delegation the opportunity to experience Beverley’s heritage, community life and hospitality. The reception brought together councillors, twinning members and guests to celebrate this international friendship and cultural links between the towns.
During the evening, gifts were exchanged between the two communities as a symbol of goodwill, mutual respect and the strength of the relationship.
Welcoming the delegation, the Mayor of Beverley, Councillor Alison Healy, spoke of the shared values that underpin the twinning relationship and the importance of maintaining strong international links at a local level.
“Although separated by distance, Beverley and Fucecchio share a deep sense of history, community and pride in place,” she said. “At a time when the world can feel uncertain, these friendships across borders are a powerful reminder of the importance of cooperation, understanding and goodwill. Our international relationships show how local communities can play a positive role in building global friendship.”
Martin Cox, Chair of the Beverley–Nogent Twinning Association, expressed his appreciation to Beverley Town Council for hosting the reception and for its continued support of the Association’s work.
“On behalf of the Beverley–Nogent Twinning Association, I would like to thank Beverley Town Council and the Mayor for such a warm and generous welcome to our friends from Fucecchio,” he said. “The Council’s support is greatly valued and helps ensure that visits like this continue to be successful and enjoyable for everyone involved.”
As part of their visit, the delegation also attended the Beverley Festival of Christmas on Sunday 14th December, joining residents and visitors in celebrating one of the town’s most popular annual events and experiencing Beverley’s festive atmosphere.
The weekend visit included a range of social and cultural activities, allowing visitors and hosts alike to strengthen personal friendships and further develop the long-established links between the two towns.
Beverley Town Council thanked the Beverley–Nogent Twinning Association, its members and local hosts for their continued commitment to promoting international friendship and cultural exchange, and wished the Fucecchio delegation an enjoyable and memorable stay in the town.
