The Beverley & East Riding Early Music Festival is back! This hugely popular weekend features the very best artists from the world of Early Music, plus workshops, talks and fun for all the family.
Now in its 38th year it continues to attract visitors from far and wide who visit Beverley not just for the wonderful music on offer but also to enjoy the town’s rich history, its array of independent restaurants and shops, and last but not least, its famous market.
This year the festival is proud to be working with East Riding Libraries, staging Baroque Around the Books, four free concerts in the run up to the main weekend. Hear the words of Shakespeare set to the music of Dowland, brought to you by Dowland’s Foundry’s Sam Brown and Daniel Thomson.
Celebrating the town’s iconic buildings, the weekend begins with internationally acclaimed French ensemble Près de votre oreille, performing Lighten Mine Eies, music by William Lawes who was lutenist to Charles I, in the glorious surroundings of St Mary’s Church, the perfect setting for the evening.
This year’s theme is Miracles and Mysteries intertwining the story of St John of Beverley with the music by the world-renowned Tallis Scholars who will be appearing at Beverley Minster.
