Beck Barge Push Won by BBC

The World's first ever Barge Pulling Championship was held at Beverley Beck on Sunday September 27th. 6 teams hauled the 65 ton barge, Syntan, 220 yards in turn against the clock. Winners and runners-up (or rather pullers-up) were teams from the BBC! Team BBC2, which won in a time of 5 mins 33 seconds, comprised popular Radio Humberside presenter, Phil White, with Jo Makel, Paul Murphy and Stuart Deakin. Team BBC1, came second in 5 minutes 43 seconds; it also featured Stuart Deakin with Breakfast presenter Carl Wheatley, Drive-time's Andy Comfort and Sports presenter James Hoggarth.
The 4 other teams were 'Up the River without a Barge Pole', 'The Merchant Navy Pulling Machine' 'Cain Narrow Boats' and 'Rapid Response and Security and Foresters' who all completed the pull in under 6 minutes 30 seconds.
