Tesco Community Grants have funded thousands of local community projects across the UK, helping schools, junior sports teams, foodbanks, charities and community groups. Since 2016 over a hundred local projects voted on in Tesco’s Beverley store have received over £200,000 in grants. Across our UK network the scheme has supported over 74,000 community groups with over £127 million in grants.
In our local area the following groups will each benefit from the latest round of grants:
· Beverley Rugby Union Football Club received £1500 for their new goal posts
· Beverley St Mary’s Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade received £1,000 to help purchase their new minibus
· 1st Beverley (St Nicholas) Scouts received £500 for their new dining area
Beverley RUFC president Carol Innes said: ''Thank you to Tesco for supporting Beverley RUFC with £1500 towards new goal posts for the club. We have playing members from 5 years old up to 60 years old who will benefit from your support. Goal posts are a necessity and thanks to Tesco we will be able to continue to play in a safe environment. Beverley RUFC is not only a place for rugby; we also support other local charities and community groups whenever we can and
Mel Bruton, commanding officer at the Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade, said: ''We would like to thank Tesco and all your customers for all their support. The kind donation will be used to help purchase a new minibus which will offer many opportunities for the young members.''
Tom McGregor, group leader at the scouts, said: ''We are grateful to Tesco for allowing us to be part of their blue token appeal and to all the people in the community who voted for us. We try to offer the young people of the area an enriching and enjoyable experience whilst nurturing their skills and providing them with development through the scouting values. The money will be used towards a new dining shelter. This will hopefully be big enough that as a group, ever growing, we can accommodate the dining needs of all our members. Thank you so much.''
