Important role of carers highlighted as the NHS celebrates its 70th Anniversary
Thu 5th July 2018With the National Health Service (NHS) celebrating its 70th anniversary, the East Riding of Yorkshire has celebrated the vital contribution carers make to the health and wellbeing of people in the East Riding and across the country.
East Riding Carers Support Service and the East Riding Carers Advisory Group hosted their annual Carers Celebration Service at Beverley Minister on Wednesday, 4 July – with the popular event being attended by a large number of people.
The service was an uplifting and joyful celebration of the valuable role of carers and included music, hymns, readings and prayers as well as the opportunity to light a candle for a loved one.
Councillor Richard Harrap, cabinet portfolio holder for adult and carer services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The 70th anniversary of the NHS provides the perfect platform to salute the work of all those who support the health and wellbeing of the country.
“The Carers Celebration Service was an excellent way of bringing together carers from across the East Riding and provided them with the opportunity to share information and meet like-minded people.
“Carers make an astonishing contribution not only to the lives of the people they care for but for society as a whole.
“As we celebrate seven decades of the National Health Service, let us also acknowledge and give thanks to the great work that carers do every single day.”
