Local businesses team up to take on ‘It’s A Knockout’
Fri 2nd August 2024Dove House’s incredible It’s A Knockout event is back this year, taking place at the hospice in Hull on Saturday 14th September. The much loved event gives teams of up to ten people the chance to take part in an exciting recreation of the 70’s television show.
There will be plenty of water, foam, inflatables, and a few tactical challenges for each team as they take on others in their quest for glory. Whether you want to enter as part of a team from your place of work, or want to compete with family or friends, all are welcome and will help contribute to supporting hospice care across Hull and East Yorkshire.
Allison O'Sullivan, Operations Manager at Sewell On The Go, is a huge supporter of the event and has entered 3 teams for years. Asked why she continues to get involved, she said “It’s such a laugh! It’s A Knockout is a really fun event that’s appropriate for all fitness levels. One of our teams is super competitive but the other two is made up of people who just enjoy taking part and being competitive against ourselves. For us, because we are spread across different sites, it’s a great opportunity to come together and do something active, so it’s a great team building activity. The best part about it is it’s all for a good cause. A lot of my colleagues and our customers have a personal connection so supporting Dove House is important to us”
This year see’s Beverley based Finnies Accountant taking on the challenge for the first time and when asked why they decided to take part, Debbie Jude said "Participating in this event was an easy decision for us. When I took the leaflet into the office, everyone saw it and got really excited about the opportunity. It's not every day that you get to take part in something so fun while also supporting such a meaningful cause. We’re thrilled to enter two teams and contribute to Dove House Hospice’s incredible work"
For some, taking part is more about remembering lost loved ones. Arco’s Tracy Broderick said “I am looking forward to supporting this event in memory of my recent late Father, John Coolledge. It brings back many happy childhood memories from the early 70's when each Saturday we would gather in front of the TV to watch the original It's A Knockout, show hosted by Stuart Hall along with the referee Eddie Waring. To have the opportunity to take part, will not only put a tick on my bucket list, I know it will be a fun-packed day to help such an amazing charity.
Jonny Bottomley, Partnership Development Fundraiser at Dove House Hospice said “It's heart warming to see businesses coming together not only for the purpose of team building but also driven by personal connections and excitement about the event. Our cause has truly resonated with everyone involved, and it’s inspiring to see the community united in support of something that is close to the hearts of so many people. The money raised has a huge impact on our ability to meet the rising costs that goes into the care and support that so many people need.”
Registration for the event is £100 per team and Dove House Hospice requires each team to raise a minimum of £500 in sponsorship.
