Creation Art Studio
Fri 9th September 2016Creation Art Studio hosted their official open evening Wednesday 7th September 2016. The studio is a new collaboration between photographic artist Nigel Walker, contemporary still life artist John Balman and architects Bridget Hansford and Gary Hornsby of SALT. The studio is based in Beverley, 54 Lairgate HU17 8EU on the ground floor of SALT'S premises.
Gary Hornsby told Just Beverley: "Bridget and I have always promoted Art and Architecture as a means to improve people’s lives through an improved environment. We have done this in a number of ways. Our core activity is SALT Architects, offering a design led professional service, which began some 16 years ago. Our belief that architecture is informed by many things including art allows us to develop functional space in a conceptual way bringing added value to our clients. For the past 7 years we have been working towards creating a new School of architecture in Hull and its location within the Hull School of Art and Design has offered great opportunities for the students being taught there."
The idea of using the ground floor at SALT has a been a possibility for several years and through discussion with John Balman and Nigel Walker the opportunity to launch the new gallery, it was too good to miss. They bring a knowledge and expertise which is invaluable. The aim for the studio is to provide an outlet for local and regional artists through exhibition.
Nigel Walker told Just Beverley "A very quick note to all our followers to thank you for the amazing response we have had to the opening of the gallery. Over one hundred people attended and seemed to enjoy the work we had assembled. In addition almost as many sent apologies and will be catching up with us when they are around.
The opening night was a great success with an estimate of over 150 people attended and events like this will be held to bring people with a similar interest together on a regular basis.
Peter Watson, one of the exhibitors of the evening, told Just Beverley: "I was born in Beverley and we lived in a flat in York Lodge down Seven Corners Lane so I spent about the first 20 years of my life in Beverley. I was a great admirer of the work of Fred Elwell and often used to visit the Art Gallery to see his work. After that I studied Graphic Design at Liverpool College of Art in the late 1960s and early 70s and really enjoyed the Liverpool Scene of artists, poets and musicians. Since then I have lived in Scarborough combining teaching and painting."
