East Riding Adult Learning Centres invite you to 'have a go' this June

As part of the 2018 Festival of Learning, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Adult Learning Centres are inviting local residents to try their hand at a range of new skills throughout June.

Festival of Learning, led by Learning and Work Institute, invites organisations and communities to take part in adult learning activities to showcase the wide range of opportunities and resources available to adults hoping to continue or resume their education.

In the East Riding, local residents have the opportunity to come along to free taster and open studio sessions to learn more about the opportunities on offer. Local residents can come along to a centre and give something a go that they’ve always wanted to try. They can get an idea of what goes on in a classroom, what adult learning is all about and meet the fantastic tutors.

June highlights include free ‘Try’ sessions.

Come along to a free two-hour ‘try’ session and find out more about the subject and the main programmes of learning that you can go on to enjoy. Booking is essential.

‘Try’ sessions include:

Try creative writing

Try drawing and painting

Try dressmaking

Try felt flowers

Try gardening for health and wellbeing

Try pottery

Try photography

Try self esteem and confidence building

Try Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (STLS)

Try using a computer.

There are also free ‘Taste and Test’ sessions.

Come along to a free two-hour ‘taste and test session’. These are not available as programmes yet, so please come along and tell us what you think and help shape future programmes. Booking is essential.

buying and selling online

interpreting dreams

holiday Spanish

mobile phone photography.

Adult Learning Open Studios

See tutors and learners at work at one of the ‘open studio’ sessions. See what you could achieve on one of the new courses, including candle making, jewellery making, sewing, bath bomb making and creating fascinators. No booking required.

These will be held at:

Beverley – Monday, 25 June, 1-6.45pm

Bridlington – Tuesday, 19 June, 9-11am and 3-7pm

Cottingham – Tuesday, 26 June, 9am-1pm and 3-7pm

Goole – Monday, 11 June, 11am – 7pm.

We hope to inspire as many local residents as possible to get involved and learn about the far reaching benefits of adult learning. It’s a great opportunity for us to showcase everything that the council’s adult learning centres have to offer.”
